Got my 295/45/17's to fit!
-
Fucking beast. Always loved your car. Even in the sc days. I was following this on e46.
-
That difference in sidewall is going to be quite nice.
The fenders look really nice in the back, the car looks aggressive as hell. How much did the widen them in the back, what exactly was done to make them fit?
-
woow that thing is meaty! must hook up mucch better now?
-
That looks wild! Will we see a new e46 1/4 mile record? Someone needs to break into the 10's. Goodluck man.

I agree, but it still hasnt raped the older brother e36 powered cars in the 1/4 mile. I'm still impressed dont get me wrong. OP you just rolled the fenders to make them fit or what? Btw car looks like a power WHORE, and I like that.

Geez man get over your hard on for the E36. Why do you mention how much better the E36 is in every thread?
Its weird, with the E46 people are making the power first then traction. With the E36 it took a very long time for the power to increase, lots of time to figure out traction issues. Also every fast E36 is in the East Coast, where there are ideal 1/4 mile tracks! If i lived in the East, we would have some record 1/4 mile times already. Im open to run any street E36 car btw...
My fenders were rolled and shaved off almost entirely on the inside to get these to fit. So far, full traction 2nd and up in 25psi mode. I have not tried race gas and 30+psi yet but the tires are awesome!

Any pics of that fab work? Do not try and look innocent you have weeped over the fact they have made great passes on vairous tracks. I do respect the work you have had done to your car. My comment above was basically a comment pushing you to the track to see what the power whore can do. It shouldnt be taken as an insult.
-
Wow the car looks very mean. Do you have any concerns in terms of cornering and does the car feel unstable at all under slight bends.

Weeped? If i had tracks like that in my backyard I would have times as well. Its not that easy... Especially when my car is more of a street car then drag car. Next step is breaking vbox records, after that it will be 1/4 mile unfortunately at a not so comparable to MIR, ATCO track.

Well i definitely would not go canyon racing with these tires. Normal driving is fine.

Don't have the will? You have to be dedicated and put in some work to back claims and reap the rewards.
I have made the drive 4 times, no big deal. I even get a discount at the same motel I use now, woot.

Ya, will. I'm more interested in work, family and gf at the moment. Don't have much to put into the car or else I would have numbers. Unfortunately afterany years the car is more of a on and off passion for me. But I plan on doing some stuff soon for sure now that I have a good tire setup.

I'm in for Sac Vic. I'm sure Drew and a few others are down to. We can make a weekend trip out of it and bring the GF's.
One request though, can I go first and hopefully :handgestures-finge: get high 10's before you get low 10's? I wouldn't mind holding the record for just a few minutes at least :teasing-tease:

Did you just say you are more interested in your gf than driving up to Sacremento to set a record?
Would someone please slap Taza? If your gf does not have giant fake knockers and is like an 11 out of 10 no excuses. If she is an 11 out of 10 and does have giant fake knockers can you introduce me?

Down bro! I was thinking about trailering up though. If something breaks up there it's not good.
Lol I don't care bro you can have the 10 second record!

Lol man I would agree if this was 4 years ago. GF comes before car now lol. The car is just a hobby to me. Don't worry, the car will be tested soon! Next weekend I can hopefully get some 60-130 numbers.

Well I havent seen Taza make a pass, but I have seen him comment on alot of threads where others have made passes. I would love to see what that power whore of a setup will do as I'm sure everyone wants to see. Consider it a friendly push to get him to the track. As for myself I live in a city where a car is not needed for transportation, and my car is located about 25 miles from me at my house. Batta if you have a vbox mail it over and i'll do a pass for you. I only get to drive my car maybe 3-4 times a month. Back to the topic now Taza I dont blame you for wanting to trailer it to the track. I always see other breaking parts at the track. Parts like diff's, axles, and driveshafts. Have you upgraded any of those parts? I would also make a day of it with the girl friend. Getting her involved will make her want to go. Ask her to man the video camera while you rape it down the track. I'm telling you that trick will work. Good luck and I look foward to seeing the car down the 1/4 mile.

How did you get the clearance? I'm assuming you cut the inside lip.. did you finish it with a roller like the eastwood?
I'm going to need to roll mine for more clearance as well, I'm curious how you did it.

Almost impossible to roll the fenders after cutting/shaving off the inside lip. It is very fragile after that point. My fenders have be rolled along time ago, and they were somewhat cut. Recently we cut almost all of it off along with shaving alot off. There was alot of work needed to be done on the lower side of the fender by the side rocker panels. No lying, it didnt come out that perfectly, one part chipped alittle bit of the paint off and we had to touch it up. Its very difficult to do but it was the only way to get these tires in the fender.
Depending on your wheel and tire setup you should be fine with a simple rolling of the fenders.

Unfortunately, I'm not willing to go to these lengths for traction. I need to find another alternative.

After awhile traction becomes your worst enemy. After years and years of battling with it, it finally pushes you over the edge. To be bonest though you cant even tell anything is different about my fenders, just the inside which i dont care. I never wanted to do a widebody, almost did it but im glad i stuck with this.
Im guessing you have an HPF kit? I would probably say you have to go with a MT tire to get traction. You can go 275/40/17 or the 305/35/18 and get decent traction without much fender work. However you must have the right offset of wheels.

What is the alternative?
Basically widebody or run around on bias-ply's.

Yeah, I'm M3onTwomps at E46fanatics. My car is at HPF getting Stage 2.5 as we speak.
I'm only going to be home for a couple weeks, so I'll bear with the lack of traction on my PS2s for now. I'll definitely be following everyone's wheel/tire reports until I come home again next March. By then, hopefully some more info is available to make a good decision. I know Scott had success with his setup and Mike likes his.
Keep us posted on yours! :)

There's other tire sizes that won't require these fender mods. Just waiting for performance information from some of the guys running new tire setups. I've got time to wait and make an educated decision.

Thanks, I'll try. I'm on a .mil network right now, so my access to media sharing sites is nil. My internet in my room sucks. Probaby worse than dial-up. I've received a few pics from HPF, but it's very difficult to upload them. I'm really hoping they'll just post a thread like they sometimes do.
I'll definitely give a review after my trip home. Don't think I'll get to it while I'm home, though. My time is going to be very limited and I plan on doing some serious driving and partying. Separately, of course. :) I'm going to the Skip Barber High Performance driving school at Lime Rock in August. Hope to learn some things. I ordered a GoPro HD camera for a trip I'm planning in the hills where I hope to find some good roads. It'll be my first attempt at a vid, so I hope it turns out well. Gonna try to get some 60-130 runs in, too.
The anxiety is killing me.

Ive tried plenty of setups. You can easily go with a set of 275/40/17's with hardly any fender work, if any. It all depends on your suspension and wheel offsets, but you can get away with fenders with no mods at all with those tire sizes. The other option is the 305/35/18 MT tire some of the guys are running, you just have to get a wheel with a 30 offset or so. That might require a rolling of the fender. The 295/45/17 will require cutting/shaving. I think as far as traction goes i listed the tires from least to best. The 275/40/17s should hook for your car in 2nd gear and up when they are deflated and new enough.
