Tide turning for Mercedes in US luxury battle? Mercedes-Benz takes US lead in sales from BMW
BMW narrowly, and we mean narrowly, edged out Mercedes for the sales crown in the United States last year. Mercedes ended 2011 on a strong note topping BMW in a couple months at the end of the year and they have carried that momentum into 2012. We are pleased to report Daimler has taken the overall US sales crown through this point in 2012. It is going to be a close battle as BMW had a 36, yes only 36, car lead through the first quarter. We expect this to go back and forth but we hope Mercedes does dethrone BMW as they have been doing a much better job catering to the enthusiast and also giving US fans all the limited edition Black Series Models. Good luck Benz, give em hell!

I wonder how this is measured - is it dealer sales to the end customer? Or dealer orders from the manufacturer? Manufacturer shipments to the dealer? Regardless, I bet the switchover from the E90 to the F30 caused some delays in sales (ramping down E90, ramping up F30) which helped Mercedes catch up. I love the AMG models, but I can't imagine they are in high enough volume to make a difference, and the rest of the Merc line-up still seems pretty "Lexus-y" to me (even if Lexus copied Mercedes
).
