Volkswagen creates the very cool 'Amarok Power' concept truck with a 3.0 liter TDI diesel

This is the kind of thing Volkswagen should be building for the US market. Volkswagen in their press release hypes up the 5,000 watt sound system which is where the 'Power' part of the name comes from. The DJ sound system gimmick is nice and all but what VWboost sees is the potential for an excellent US market truck. Get rid of the stereo gimmick and you have a good looking compact diesel truck offering 268 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque.

That power and torque is routed through an 8-speed automatic transmission. This truck would offer all wheel drive along with a fairly light weight, great gas mileage, and excellent towing capability. Why in the world is it a concept instead of available for sale in North America?

VW, you focus on the 22 inch rims and stereo instead of the fact that this truck would fill a niche in the truck market that is currently wide open. One of these days you'll get it VW, one of these days.

This Amarok rocks! Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles presents Power DJ version with 5,000-watt sound system

Hanover/Reifnitz, 27 May 2014 - Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles presents the Amarok 'Power', demonstrating on the shores of Lake Wörthersee an idea for providing a mobile sound system at any event: for the spacious cargo bed of the 5.25-metre-long pick-up provides sufficient storage space for all the equipment needed for parties such as the GTI meet. Also flexibly transportable by the disc jockey and simple to set up at the venue, this sound system delivering total power of 5,000 watts will certainly have not only the Wörthersee rocking.

And this special Amarok also has 'rhythm' thanks to its richly varied interplay of metallic, high-gloss and matt surfaces: deep 'Dynamic grey' metallic paint underscores for the one part the technical, cool look, while the use of micro glass flakes intensifies the sheen. Wing mirror covers and the mighty 22-inch alloys (tyre dimension 295/35) are painted in 'Gunmetal'. Further striking touches are created by orange decals on doors and sills and orange brake callipers. Genuine highlights on the other hand include the bi-xenon headlights with their chrome inserts and the likewise chrome-plated twin tail pipes of the Amarok 'Power'. The technically high value look and feel is, however, also reflected inside: refined black and 'Orange Power' nappa leather, black Alcantara on the steering wheel, bucket seats and door trim is additionally combined in the cockpit with high quality carbon leather. A love for detail: on the seats the honeycomb of the radiator grille is recreated as perforation and a silhouette of the Amarok is laser-etched into the leather beneath the head-piece.

And these fine details naturally continue in respect of the sound system installed in the vehicle: centrepiece of the DJ equipment is an Allen & Heath Xone:92. Used as input devices are Pioneer CDJ900NXS units. Sound output comes via two VOID ACOUSTICS Impulse 3t speakers. Their special design was especially created for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. With the similarly adapted VOID ACOUSTICS Stasys Xair subwoofer the 'Amarok Power' is ideally equipped to reproduce even the really low frequencies. The VOID ACOUSTICS mycro 6 loudspeakers used as monitors have been integrated into dedicated functional sound boxes. The VOID ACOUSTICS loudspeakers are driven by amplifiers from MC². All of the individual components have been designed in such a way that when assembled they perfectly fill the complete 3.5 m2 cargo bed of the Amarok SingleCab and as a 'compact cube' thus provide space for the complete PA system. All ready for the next open air party, which the Amarok will get really rocking!

If it was a full size with a full frame and a respectable towing capacity I would definitely buy one. I think the market is missing a good diesel option short of a 3/4 ton truck

You're exactly right. Why is nobody capitalizing on this?
