It begins - Ford's 'intelligent' speed limiter will read signs and adjust on the fly to prevent you from speeding
Do you want to be protected from speeding? Well then Ford's new system that they intend to roll out this summer in the S-Max is just for you. Now this could certainly help in areas drivers are not familiar with as safety cameras (revenue cameras) target speeders.
Do you need to be protected from yourself? Well, fortunately the Intelligent Speed Limiter can be switched on or off. Whether it actually keeps anyone safer is a valid question being asked but we could certainly see how it could prevent someone from getting taken advantage of by increasing speeding penalties designed to stuff county coffers.
The system will essentially adjust to the local conditions by scanning traffic signs. The driver can set a maximum speed and the speed is automatically adjusted from the traffic sign recognition system.
How far are we from cars just doing all the work for us? Maybe two decades. Maybe.
