LSx swapped G35? Still cool or am I just trying to relive last decades dreams? For those

For those of you who don't know me, back almost 10 years ago I had a first gen g35 couple. Came from a long line of older BMW's and always was disappointed in the build quality and driving dynamics of the car but it looked nice. Years went by, had a few accidents, did some work to the car. It looked even nicer but always drove like crap (bought it now so I know it was just the way the car was)

At the end maybe 6 months after taking it off the road I was nailed pretty bad by a dump truck. I took the opportunity to put on nismo front bumper, skirts, chargespeed rear, work vsxx wheels, and the whole thing was painted BMW individual rubyshwartz

It was nice for about a month until a friend crashed into the back bumper. Still drove it and planned on fixing it when my girlfriend cracked the front bumper on a Giant curb

After that it's been sitting for 5 years growing mold under a tree. I've been debating what to do. I can sell it as is, fix it up a bit with craigslist parts or whatever and try to make a bit more on it, or...

I could go balls to the wall since I need a project car, strip and cage it, and go ls1 or 2 with a rear mount turbo which I think would be badass and unique

My now fiance keeps making fun of me and calling me a ricer. Our domino's delivery guy has a g35, etc

Do I need to just let it go?

Yeah that car was nothing but bad luck. Had three engines under warranty, was stolen (and I lived out in the middle of nowhere where nothing gets stolen) and was hit like three times prior to that

If I go for it and do a ballin on a budget build even a 5.3 small block wouldn't be too bad. Would handle a ton of boost and even though it would be a bit front heavy could make for an awesome drift car. I'm not too concerned with screwing up the balance. It always handled like crap anyway Click here to enlarge

My extensive 5 minutes of googling found me anecdotal quotes of "518 pounds, fully dressed, and wet" for the lm7 (iron 5.3), and "around 475 ibs wet and fully dressed" for a vq35de. If those figures are correct, you aren't going to be gaining much weight at all over the front. Plus, I'm pretty sure the lm7 will sit lower, so that'll help.
Edit: could always go l33? It's an aluminum block, but still pretty stout. I'd say go for aluminum if your power goals aren't over 1k.

Get rid of it. Sounds like my first car that couldn't stay nice for whatever reason. You will be happy you did get rid of it when you look back years from now.

If you go with the iron blocks try to find a 6L block LQ4 or LQ9. It will cost a little more in the beginning and are harder to find than the 5.3 and 4.8 ones, but you can use the L92 heads which flow alot more than the Cathedral port heads on the smaller bore motors. You will need at least a 6L block to use the L92 heads or anything with at least a 4" bore. If you are concerned about weight the aluminum block motors are a lot lighter, looking around 415-440lbs all said and done which is probably lighter than the G35 motor, although cost and availability is a bit harder with the aluminum blocks.

Again I'm not really sure what your goals are. If you are looking for absolute bang for the buck can't go wrong with a 4.8 or 5.3. They have been shown to hold 1200whp with stock internals.

Get rid of it. Do you have certain race events in mind? Because this would be a good time to list them to get suggestions for a new car lol
