Stock W212 E63 AMG S 4Matic versus 2010 Nissan GTR on the dragstrip
With the addition of all wheel drive to the E63 AMG Mercedes really made the luxury sports sedan an excellent drag race platform. Four wheel drive traction means out of the hole it will be hard to beat even on street tires... just like the all wheel drive Nissan GTR. These cars may have different goals but considering both have all wheel drive and twin turbo powerplants each happens to be a strong straightline platform. So who wins?
This is the same E63 AMG S that BenzBoost posted earlier in the week. At PBIR (Palm Beach International Raceway) the E63 managed an 11.8 @ 119.5. Because the E63 has under 1000 miles on the clock launch control was not used. To make it fair the GTR did not use launch control either.
The E63 has the better launch and reaction time. It also pulls the GTR on the top end running an 11.75 @ 121.52 doing much better than its previous run. The GTR is stock and does an 11.8 @ 117.54. So yes, a stock E63 AMG S can beat a stock GTR on the drag strip. Just not one of the newer GTR models.

That's pretty awesome to drive off the lot in a mid-size Merc that can do mid 11s all day.

Ehhh, that GTR ran a nearly a 2.0 60'. Would have been game over if it were launched properly and cut the mid 1.6 that it is capable of.

Too close a call , I'll call it even on both cars, whomever gets the better launch wins.. But that's pretty quick for a 4 door merc ...

Almost as fast an M5 very impressive though. Funny to see large luxury sedans beat up on GTRs, I love it.

M5 is still playing catch up in the aftermarket though the mercy have been running mid 10's @ over 130 for over a year now. Look at this tune only e63 on renntechs intermediate tune which is for people looking for a safe tune and it can be pushed harder with the extreme tune. Going against a m5 with downpipes full exhaust and tune. The m5 starts in front of the merc AND takes the jump but the torque pulls it back and it ends up winning on a 40-150 with the jump/head start. The m5 comes back a bit in the end but not enough and if you add downpipes / exhaust to the merc it wouldn't matter on the top end

How about this tuners still are having big trouble with the 4matic torque limiters in the drivetrain/software that's why we haven't seen anything impressive from the 4matic Benz once tuned
the same rwd tune only e63 pulls on weistecs full upgraded (turbos, downpipes, exhaust, filters, ice tank) 4 magic e63. Something is obviously not right with that car and once they figure out the issues it should be a beast but for now it's not running right

AMG is obvious using a ton of torque management to protect the AWD drivetrain.
Frankly, I love max effort RWD builds, but any "penalty" the AWD system causes the E63 to suffer, it is worth it.
Especially on a luxury sedan, on street tires, on roads with variable conditions and temps.
I should have bought a GTR when they were selling for $70k new.
But, the current prices, limited production, and the cost for mods, just don't make any sense to me.
Especially when you compare it to a C6/C7 Corvette than can be bought new for $50k and make 750rwhp after a $10k ECS package with a ECS blower, headers, meth ,and tune.
Not to mention, the GTR is just U-G-L-Y.Last edited by TT C6; 02-25-2014 at 05:34 PM.
