    C7 Z06 owner left wondering what happened after a bolt on F80 M3 spanks him

    An F80 M3 beating a C7 Z06 is not news. Turbo upgraded examples have humiliated the C7 Z06 in the past. Additionally, the stock C7 Z06 is not exactly the barometer it once with with the ZR1 now on the market along with many other fast factory stock cars.

    This F80 M3 is said to have bolt ons although we do not know what bolt ons, what tune, or what fuel. The Z06 is stock beyond the wheels and tires.

    The first race has the Z06 start in 3rd gear at 60 miles per hour. Not ideal but the race is even with the Z06 edging.

    The second race has the Z06 owner repeat his starting speed in the same gear. Why not start in second gear? Why not change the starting speed?

    The F80 M3 runs away. The Z06 owner wonders why. Well, there are a few explanations.

    1. Heat soak from the baby blower. The TVS1740 is great for torque down low but is spun hard and generates a lot of heat.

    2. Weak top end. The Z06 suffers at higher speeds precisely because torque falls off from the TVS1740. The ZR1 LT5 addresses this with a much larger TVS2650 unit.

    3. Better start and better gear choice from the F80 M3.

    The truth is likely a combination of these factors.

    Fuels being similar, we shouldn't be even talking about a 3L 6 being in the same frame with a 6.2L 8.

    If that was a ZR1 we wouldn't be.

    The LT4 is a disappointment. That said, it's still immensely powerful and satisfying to drive with great response. They just went way too small on the blower.

    Haha, well made race vid. Very enjoyable to watch. It's nice to see some post production and not just a vid slapped online.
